Career changing is a difficult undertaking, but far from impossible. Now is the perfect time for you to transition into a field and job that you’ve wanted to be in. Here are some great resources for getting you started and guiding you through:

Fast Company’s Career Changing Guide

A recent MSNBC article: Reinventing your career in a tough economy

Wall Street Journal’s Reinvention Section

Marshall Goldsmith in Business Week on Reinventing Your Career

A slightly older article from Harvard Business School Working Knowledge

Some basic takeaways:

Determine what skills you have and how they can be reapplied to a new industry.

Determine what skills you lack and how you will go about attaining them.

Educate yourself on the major players (both companies and individuals) and get to know them. Read blogs, network online and in person, forge connections, and put yourself out there!

Be prepared, and allow for a transition period. This may be a period of unemployment, or a position/freelance role somewhere in between your previous and dream job.
