Implement an Online Store in Seconds

Google just released a store gadget that you can easily embed in a website in a matter of minutes — no coding necessary. It uses Google Spreadsheets as the database back-end and Google Checkout as the transaction engine.

No complicated coding or technical tasks are required. You can get your first online store up-and-running in under five minutes.

1. Sign up for Google Checkout
2. List products you want to sell in a Google spreadsheet
3. Place the Google Checkout store gadget on your website. (Also supported: Google Sites, Blogger, and iGoogle).

Resources for Reinventing Yourself

Career changing is a difficult undertaking, but far from impossible. Now is the perfect time for you to transition into a field and job that you’ve wanted to be in. Here are some great resources for getting you started and guiding you through:

Some basic takeaways:

  • Determine what skills you have and how they can be reapplied to a new industry.
  • Determine what skills you lack and how you will go about attaining them.
  • Educate yourself on the major players (both companies and individuals) and get to know them. Read blogs, network online and in person, forge connections, and put yourself out there!
  • Be prepared, and allow for a transition period. This may be a period of unemployment, or a position/freelance role somewhere in between your previous and dream job.
